A Review of Deborah Lupton's Medicine as Culture: Illness, Disease and the Body (2012)

I had the privilege to teach SOC 307 Sociology of Health last semester at Bishop's University. This course seeks to examine the place of health and illness in society, the relationship between bio-medical problems and the social, political and economic realities that help shape them. Topics included poverty and health, mental illness, aging, death and dying, professionalism, health service organization, inequalities in health service access and use, recent policies and difficulties with health care reform. Whilst choosing a textbook for a class is never a straightforward task, I personally enjoyed Deborah Lupton's book and found her insights particularly interesting as she draws from various disciplines including social and cultural anthropology, world geography and sociology to analyse the aforementioned topics. However, allow my students to share with you their impressions of the textbook instead. 😊

Inked by Noémie at Nephty's Tattoo Part Four!

My Newest Mandala - By Noémie!

Today Noémie created yet another striking Mandala on the back of my arm! She also shaded in the original shoulder tattoo. 😊 With 50% of the sleeve now complete, I am excited to begin the next stage. Remember, Noémie creates each mandala from scratch! Thus, every mandala will be unique and as you can see, her newest creation was rather detailed and intricate. Like what you see? Contact Nephty's Tattoo today and set up an appointment with Noémie. 😎

L’équipée Rides the Pyrénées - 4 days / 120 riders / 1000 kms from the Atlantique Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea

Picture © Ludovic Ismael
In celebration of International Women's Day I wanted to highlight a group of women who impressed the world back in 2015 with their Himalaya trip on a set of Royal Enfield Bullet 500cc motorcycles! Whilst many men and women in the motorcycling community spend more time taking selfies than they do actually riding, these five women set the bar for all adventure seekers with their wanderlust. They represent the very best of the motorcycling world and should be an inspiration for any man or woman looking to get into adventure riding. This time L’équipée take on the Pyrénées for 4 days with 120 riders over 1000 kms from the Atlantique ocean to the Mediterranean sea!

Happy International Women's Day! 💗

March 9th: Day of Events - Bishop's University on Abenaki Territory: Are Partnerships a Path to Decolonization

Inked by Noémie at Nephty's Tattoo Part Three!

My Newest Mandala - By Noémie!

Work on my left arm continues as Noémie created yet another striking Mandala! My sleeve is progressing very nicely and I am looking forward to seeing the final product! With just three or four sessions left, it won't be long now! The gaps will be filled in eventually with some geometric designs that Noémie has already picked out. In case you are wondering, she will be shading in the shoulder piece eventually. Although, her line work is so nice that I asked that she leave the delicate sections alone. Each mandala takes in and around 3+ to 4+ hours to complete depending on the complexity of the mandala itself. Nephty's Tattoo is a top notch place because of artists like Noémie. She is meticulous and hard working. Who needs a therapist when you can visit a tattoo artist! 😏

Planning The Riding Season

Packed and Ready to Roll
At long last, the winter season is fast coming to an end and the Quebec Winter Tire law will cease to be an issue for all riders. Most likely your bike is just about ready to roll, and you're already planning on taking her out the first ride of the season in anticipation. I sure am!

2017 Montreal Motorcycle Show Part Deux By Timothy Bowker

A former student of mine, Mr. Timothy Bowker, was kind enough to send me a few more pictures of the 2017 Motorcycle Show. Not surprisingly, his taste in motorcycles lean towards the fast and the furious with a few exceptions of course. He also seemed to be attracted to the Moto Guzzi V7 Racer and V9 Roamer. Whilst not necessarily quick they do seem to confirm Moto Guzzi's marketing demographic. The Scrambler Ducati also makes an appearance.
